The Martin Luther King Center is a collaborative
effort between the YMCA, City of Pasco and United Way
of Benton & Franklin Counties. The YMCA staffs and
operates the center which is open all year long. The YMCA is able to
subsidize all most programs at the center because of
contributors to the YMCA “Strong Kids” Campaign, and the United Way of
Benton & Franklin Counties. Unless otherwise indicated, activities
listed below are included in your $10 Annual Membership Fee.
Game Room
YMCA offers recreational fun in the game room and
common room areas. Adults and kids have access to pool table, bumper
pool, foosball tables, air hockey tables, ping pong, and a chess and
checkers table. In the common area, adult and youth participants at
the Martin Luther King Center have access to a large screen TV with
cable access.
Field Trips
YMCA staff
offer free field trips periodically through-out the year exposing
children to new ideas and places. Past field trips have included
trips to Mariner’s baseball games, Silverwood Amusement Park,
Seahawks Football Camp Day, movie theater, fishing trips, car
shows, plays and concerts at Columbia Basin College.
Sports
The YMCA offers flag football, indoor soccer, and outdoor soccer.
Download the 2008 Outdoor Soccer brochure here. Soccer registration
takes place from 3-7 p.m. May 1 though 31st. No new teams will
be added after May 31. Cost is $20 per player before May 31, $30
per player after May 31.
Gymnasium
The YMCA offers instructional sports programs for
children 15 years and under. We encourage both boys and girls to
play. Children have an option of choosing from activities like
indoor soccer, basketball, kickball and dodge-ball. YMCA sports
offer a great opportunity to teach values and to help improve
self-esteem. Adult recreation is also offered in the gym for adult
team sports and pick-up games. Check hours for specific time for
activities in the gym. Basketball or tennis shoes are required to
play in the gym. No street shoes are allowed.
Weight Room
Help is on hand to assist
youth and adults 13 years of age and older in the weight fitness room.
The weight room is open Monday through Saturday year round. The weight
room is equipped with free weights and various work out equipment that
can be used for personal fitness programs. YMCA staff can help put
together a workout that fits your needs. Just ask!
Homework Center/Computer Lab
The YMCA encourages all students to take advantage of
the YMCA Homework Center at the Martin Luther King Center. YMCA staff and volunteers provide help and assistance
in all subject areas and grade levels.
The YMCA Homework Center is an excellent way to make
sure your child stays motivated after school. Your kids can exert all
kinds of energy as they do arts and crafts and play educational games.
Solid core values of respect, caring, responsibility and respect are
incorporated into every YMCA activity—to reinforce the emotional
foundation that you’ve already established.
