| The Artist Has Been Selected! |
|
Jenny Rieke- a local artist in the Tri-Cities has been selected by Leadership Tri-Cities Class XV to complete their envisioned mural project that will inspire leadership through art at the Pasco YMCA (Martin Luther King Center).
Leadership Tri-Cities Class XV’s project will leave a long lasting impact on the Tri-Cities through partnerships, youth, and the arts. The project’s focus is a partnership with the YMCA of the greater Tri-Cities, to revitalize their Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Pasco. The project’s focal point will be working with students to design and paint a large indoor mural, measuring 75 feet long by 10 feet high. The mural will celebrate the rich history, diversity and reflect the shared values of the Tri-Cities’ community. The project also includes helping the YMCA remove a wall to expand the computer lab and relocate the center’s weight room. Tri-Cities’ youth will be mentored by Leadership Tri-Cities Class XV members and a commissioned artist throughout the project. The students will work with class members on planning and marketing, to design and painting of the mural, helping instill a sense of service, pride and passion for leadership. Each journey begins with one step, or in this case, one brush stroke. The YMCA has received $10,000 from the Three Rivers Community Foundation to renovate the weight room, transforming it into a computer lab, homework center and wellness center. To turn the project into a reality, $15,500 more is needed for the mural design, painting and ongoing maintenance. All donations will be memorialized on a plaque near the mural and in media publications. Please help make a difference for the Tri-Cities community and area youth.
